“I became interested in Conga Drumming at the age of 16. My oldest brother played Congas and I started taking lessons from him.”

Anthony Handy aka KABIR is related to the famous W.C. Handy known as the “Father of Blues”. He is the lead drummer in the World Percussions Group “DRUMPLAY”. Hea has been in the group since the fall of 2001. The drum group has produced 6 CDs’ and won the FREE TIMES Music Award for 2002.

Kabir is also a talented Instructor in the Art of Drumming, he taught classes at Brathenal Community Center, where he taught students the art of West African and Latin rhythms. For the Fatima Family Center 2005 Summer Day Camp, he taught W. African Drum Theory to Children ages 6 – 14. He taught private classes as well and is skilled in the art of reskinning hand drums.

Kabir’s performance experience has continued to grow in importance; he joined the “DRUMPLAY” ensemble in May 1001, on March 3^rd, 2003, DRUMPLAY performed at the Beachland Ballroom in Cleveland, Ohio with the Jazz Fusion group Gongzilla as headliner.

July 13, 2007 found Kabir performing with numerous Drummers (approximately 200) at the ingenuity Festiva in Downtown Cleveland. Again with DRUMPLAY, he was a featured Artist at several Muscle-man triathlons for runners from 2005 – 2007. He also was featured at the Timberman Triathlon Event in Lake Winipesauke, New Hamshire in August 2006. There was an axciting performance at the TWILIGHT AT THE ZOO and Sandy Shanty Resort in Geneva, Ohio. February 2007 found Kabir drumming at the Civic Center Talent Show.
